Juan Peña is the primary producer at Hacienda la Papaya as well as the owner of exporting company CafExporto, who manage dry mill processing, quality control, packaging, exporting, and more for the families of producers around the region and local community.
Quality control is taken very seriously at La Papaya. To obtain the goal of producing the finest cups of coffee possible, they have partnered with the University of Cuenca to measure soil qualities and tree nutrient absorption. They have also implemented a comprehensive drip irrigation system to water the 35,000 coffee plants on the farm. The high 2100 m elevation and “dry-tropical” climate add to the great coffee quality.
